LAND AND ITS KEEPERS

THE EXPLORER’S TABLE

with Laura

An adventure through wild Costa Rica, followed by fire, flour and the simple pleasure of making something together.

MEET LAURA
_________

Explorer, author and storyteller Laura Bingham has spent much of her life venturing beyond the familiar.

From sailing across the Atlantic with almost no sailing experience to cycling 7,000 kilometres across South America and leading expeditions through some of the world’s most remote landscapes, her journeys have always been driven by curiosity rather than certainty.

Alongside her expeditions, Laura has raised significant funds for conservation and environmental charities, using adventure as a way to inspire people to care more deeply about the natural world.

Through The Current, Laura shares more than extraordinary stories. She invites guests to experience the landscape with the same curiosity that has guided her own adventures, discovering that exploration is as much about perspective as it is about distance.

“Adventure doesn’t begin when you reach somewhere extraordinary. It begins the moment you become curious enough to take the first step.”

STEP INTO LAURA’S WORLD

A sample rhythm for the experience. Every private day is adapted to the guests, ocean conditions and the season.

Meet Laura over freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee before setting out towards a rarely visited protected reserve hidden among the hills of the Nicoya Peninsula.

As the roads disappear and the forest begins to close around you, Laura introduces the landscape ahead and shares how a lifetime of exploration has changed the way she enters wild places: with curiosity, respect and an instinct to look beyond the obvious.

9:00am

Spend the morning following remote trails through one of the peninsula’s most remarkable protected landscapes. Keep watch for flashes of scarlet macaws overhead, monkeys moving through the canopy, coatis disappearing into the undergrowth and the extraordinary birds, butterflies and other wildlife that inhabit these forests.

Nothing is staged and nothing is guaranteed. That’s precisely the point.

9:30am

Continue deeper into the reserve as the trail leads through dense forest towards hidden waterfalls and natural swimming holes.

Pause to swim beneath the trees, explore the landscape and simply take in the extraordinary feeling of being somewhere genuinely wild.

Along the way, Laura shares stories from expeditions across oceans, jungles and continents, not simply the triumphs, but the wrong turns, uncertainty and unexpected moments that have shaped the way she sees the world.

10:30am

Emerge from the forest and return to a beautiful open-air kitchen surrounded by nature.

Roll up your sleeves and join Laura for a private sourdough session. Work with a living starter, mix and shape dough by hand and discover the beautifully simple alchemy of flour, water, salt and time.

12:00pm

Gather around a beautifully laid long table for a generous lunch celebrating local produce and freshly baked bread. Warm sourdough, cultured butter, seasonal vegetables, ferments, tropical salads and beautiful Costa Rican ingredients are passed around the table.

Over lunch, the conversation travels much further. Hear the stories that rarely make it into the headlines and discover what a lifetime of choosing the unknown has taught Laura about resilience, curiosity and living adventurously.

Before leaving, receive a living sourdough starter to take home, along with everything you need to continue caring for it - a small piece of the day, and its spirit of curiosity, to carry home with you.

Why Laura

Many people can guide you through the jungle.
Very few can teach you how to see it.

Laura’s gift lies in helping people reconnect with curiosity. Every walk becomes a conversation, every landscape reveals another story and every challenge becomes an opportunity to look at the world differently.

Her experience isn’t about reaching a destination.

It’s about rediscovering the joy of exploration itself.

A different way to travel

Exploration has the power to change both people and places.

Throughout her career, Laura has used adventure to raise awareness and funding for conservation and environmental projects, inspiring thousands of people to engage more deeply with the natural world.

By creating meaningful experiences rooted in curiosity, education and environmental stewardship, this journey demonstrates how exploration can become a force for protecting the landscapes that inspire it.
