_________For Nikki, creativity begins with noticing.
A shell marked by the tide. The pattern of a palm shadow. The shape of a seed pod. The rich colour of earth after rain.
As an artist and ceramicist, Nikki has always been drawn to the small details that give a place its character. Costa Rica’s coastline, jungle and botanical landscape have become an endless source of material, colour and inspiration for her work.
Through The Current, Nikki invites guests into that process.
Beginning with clay in the studio, you’ll then step outside together to explore the landscape that surrounds it — gathering ideas, textures and colours before returning to transform those discoveries into something entirely your own.
This is not simply a pottery class.
It is a way of experiencing Costa Rica more closely and creating something that could only have been made here.

STEP INTO NIKKI’S WORLD
A sample rhythm for the experience. Every private day is adapted to the guests, ocean conditions and the season.
Meet Nikki over freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee as she introduces the day ahead and shares how nature has shaped her creative practice.
Using intuitive hand-building techniques, Nikki helps you create a vessel, sculptural piece or collection of smaller objects while introducing the materials, forms and textures that influence her own work. There is no expectation of perfection and no need for previous experience.
The first pieces are deliberately left unfinished. Because next, you’ll go in search of what belongs on them.
9:00am
Set out along a quiet stretch of coastline. Explore tide pools, beaches and rocky coves in search of nature’s smallest treasures: delicate shells, seed pods, driftwood, leaves, sea-worn textures and botanical forms.
Rather than simply collecting objects, you’ll learn how to observe shape, texture and pattern, discovering beauty in the details most people walk straight past.
Only naturally fallen or washed-ashore treasures are gathered, leaving the landscape exactly as it was found.
9:30am
Return to the studio. Using beautiful locally sourced Costa Rican clay, begin hand-building a collection of sculptural pieces inspired entirely by the morning’s discoveries.
Shells, botanicals and natural textures become gentle impressions in the clay, creating pieces that could only have been made in this place.
10:30am
Gather around a beautifully styled long-table lunch celebrating the flavours of Costa Rica.
Seasonal ingredients, thoughtful conversation and an unhurried afternoon invite time to pause, reflect and connect before returning to the studio.
1:00pm
As your own creations rest, discover another side of Costa Rica's creativity. Working with natural pigments made from locally foraged plants, flowers, seeds and earth, create delicate botanical studies inspired by the day's exploration.
Learn how colour has been gathered from the landscape for generations, transforming natural materials into paint through traditional processes. Guests leave with both a ceramic piece and an original botanical artwork.
3:00pm
End the afternoon with tea, wine or botanical cocktails as everyone’s work is displayed together in a small celebratory exhibition.
