Whenever I go somewhere new, I spend days researching and planning, trying to find the places, people and experiences I shouldn’t miss. Yet, even after all that preparation, I often leave wondering: did I really experience the place, or only the version that was easiest to find?

As a native Londoner, I knew how different the city felt when it was shared by someone who lived there. More than ten years ago, I became an experience host, showing visitors the places I loved and introducing them to a side of London they might not otherwise have found.

That experience made me realise how much the person sharing a place can shape the way you experience it. From then on, wherever I travelled, I looked for that same local connection - asking questions, following personal recommendations and seeking out the people who understood what made their home special.

The real gems are rarely sitting at the top of a search result. They are found through conversations, introductions and knowledge passed from one person to another.

When I came to Costa Rica, I found so many extraordinary people - people who cared deeply about what they did and were genuinely passionate about sharing it. I wanted to create the kind of service I had always searched for: a place where travellers could find those people and experience a destination through their knowledge, stories and way of seeing it.

At its heart, The Current is a place for those stories to be told. It allows you to choose not only what you would like to do, but who you would like to experience it with. From there, we help shape a day or a journey around the people you feel drawn to - personal, thoughtful and filled with the small details that turn time away into something you keep.

The Current is my way of making those introductions possible.
